# DeAutoWijzer

> DeAutoWijzer (www.deautowijzer.nl) is a Dutch licence-plate check (kentekencheck) for used cars. Enter a Dutch registration number and get the official RDW vehicle data, an AI-written buying advice and a checklist for the viewing. The site is in Dutch and only covers vehicles registered in the Netherlands.

DeAutoWijzer combines the public RDW open data (the Dutch vehicle register) with its own knowledge base of known problems per engine type. A language model (Google Gemini) turns that into a plain-Dutch verdict and an inspection checklist. DeAutoWijzer is not an official RDW website.

**When to use DeAutoWijzer:**

- A person in the Netherlands is about to buy a used car and wants to know what the official register says about one specific vehicle, by its Dutch licence plate: when the APK (Dutch MOT) expires and which defects past inspections found, open recalls, whether it is insured (WAM), the RDW's verdict on the odometer reading, emissions and basic specifications.
- That person wants a plain-language buying advice for that vehicle and a checklist to take to the viewing, including known issues for its engine type.
- Someone wants to know what to look out for with a car model and generation before buying (model guides), or wants Dutch-language advice on buying a used car (blog).

**When not to use it:** for vehicles registered outside the Netherlands; for a valuation or a fair asking price (the report gives at most a rough indication, not an appraisal); for damage or maintenance history, which the RDW register does not hold; for official RDW transactions such as registering a car or transferring ownership; or as a replacement for a physical inspection by a mechanic.

**How an agent should use it:**

- Send the user to `https://www.deautowijzer.nl/voertuig/{KENTEKEN}`, with the plate in capitals and without dashes or spaces, for example `https://www.deautowijzer.nl/voertuig/99TVHT`. Without an account that page shows which car it is, when the APK expires and how many official checks need attention. The full report with the AI advice and the checklist needs a free account, which includes 3 full checks per week.
- The check runs in the browser and needs JavaScript; there is no public API. Do not script bulk licence-plate lookups: the terms of use forbid automated requests for large numbers of plates.
- The content pages below (home, about, contact, privacy, FAQ, blog articles and model guides) return Markdown when requested with the header `Accept: text/markdown`. The same URLs serve HTML to browsers.
